Swell Brooch JewelleryArt, travel and tourism combined when sisters Meryl Hodgson and Carolyn McKinnon merged their interests to establish SwellARTS in 2009.

Carolyn is a qualified gold and silversmith who has been designing, creating and exhibiting her silver jewellery for thirty years.  Extra training in New Zealand to complete a certificate in Jade and Hard Stone Carving provided the skills and impetus for new designs and sculpture.

“I love the designing process.  It’s my way of exploring the issues that are influencing me, my love of being out in the landscape, and even the things that are troubling me.  My designs will usually have their starting point there somewhere.”

Go to our gallery to view a range of past works and visit our on-line store to purchase from her new designs.

Meryl’s love of travel inspired her to change career to the tourism industry and she has 20 years working in visitor information centres, accommodation, and museums.  She loves swapping travel tales and encouraging people to visit new areas and explore Victoria’s Surfcoast and Bellarine Peninsula. Share this story in her nautical and history inspired photo prints and cards.

When she returns from holidays and overseas trips we always expect her to pull out an eclectic range of souvenirs and presents that are a collection of the good, the quirky and the unexpected from other countries – a reminder of a personal journey.

Our gift range in our on-line store aims to promote some of the uniqueness of Australia whilst encouraging Australian designed and made. Check it out for some fun and affordable ideas for your global family.
